When Nicole Kidman received the prestigious AFI Life Achievement Award this spring, it seemed a perfect and worthwhile occasion for the Belcourt to provide our own celebration of her extraordinary work. We have been so fortunate to have Ms. Kidman’s support of the Belcourt in the past — and for this series, we’re overwhelmingly honored that she was willing to assist in selecting eight films to highlight. While only a small portion of her extensive filmography, it’s a selection that covers a wide swath of this remarkable artist’s heralded career and talent — and her gifts to the world of cinema.

With each new volume, Queer Qlassics has aimed to explore new methods and modes of storytelling. This year, we’re taking a dialectical approach, examining contradictory impulses that lead to captivating and complicated narratives.
