VOYAGE OF THE ROCK ALIENS

Part of Invasion! and Music City Mondays.

It’s Devo meets GREASE in VOYAGE OF THE ROCK ALIENS, a genre-bending musical mutation from the outer limits of the cosmos (aka 1984). A group of new wave extraterrestrials blast through the galaxy in a guitar-shaped spaceship, searching for the truest form of rock ‘n’ roll. After witnessing Dee Dee (Pia Zidora, HAIRSPRAY) competing to become the top rocker in the small town of “Speelburgh,” the UFO lands on Earth and sets off total mayhem — including Michael Berryman (THE HILLS HAVE EYES) as a chainsaw-wielding psychopath. Combining the electric experimentation of early MTV with the spirits of ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and STAR WARS, VOYAGE OF THE ROCK ALIENS is a glorious, coked-out spectacle that’s guaranteed to make you happy. Newly restored from the original camera negative!

“Coming right at you from 1984’s vision of the collision between the rockabilly ’50s and the not-too-distant future… The outfits are all that you could hope for, and the slightly ramshackle quality just makes the film all the more endearing.” —Jason Shawhan, Nashville Scene

“A comingled parody of beach party, sci-fi, and slasher movies, all done as a New Wave take on GREASE… Screams ‘Eighties’ in a way worthy of being placed in a time capsule to enlighten future generations about the era in which A Flock of Seagulls, pubescent Madonna-wannabes, and this celluloid artifact all made a certain sense.” —Dennis Harvey, 48hills.org

“A jaw-dropping and wildly entertaining time capsule on every pop culture level imaginable.” —Mondo Digital
