GUN CRAZY

Part of Weekend Classics: Lovers on the Lam

Troubled but reformed marksman Bart Tare (John Dall) has a soft spot for cold-hearted sharpshooter Annie Laurie (Peggy Cummins), marrying the femme-fatale who warns him that she’s “bad, but will try to be good.” But when the money runs out, she lays down the gauntlet: join her in a life of crime, or get lost. Frequently compared to BONNIE AND CLYDE, this hard-bolied noir knockout preceded it by 17 years and definitely has it all — it’s tight, taut and utterly compelling from start to finish.

“Tightly knit suspense and deft character drawing make GUN CRAZY one of the surprise thrillers of the season. You can fairly hear the audience holding its breath as events build up to the crashing climax.” —Miami Herald (Apr 13, 1950)
