Part of SNL Cinematic Universe
Suit up for spirits and this double feature of ghost-busting, each representative of two distinct eras of SNL-culled casts: the original 1984 version starring Bill Murray and Dan Akyroyd, among others, followed by the 2016 reboot starring Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon.
GHOSTBUSTERS (1984)
Dir. Ivan Reitman | USA | 1984 | 105 min. | PG | 4K DCP
Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) take a chance on going freelance — de-haunting houses in a new ghost removal service. Their first order of business becomes saving beautiful cellist Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) and nerdy Louis Tully (Rick Moranis), who’ve inadvertently opened the gates of hell — right in their own apartment building.
GHOSTBUSTERS (2016)
Dir. Paul Feig | USA | 2016 | 117 min. | PG-13 | 4K DCP
Much like the first film, the 2016 “reboot” directed by Paul Feig (MEAN GIRLS) angered men-children everywhere by casting another crew of SNL cast members regulars, this time all-female. They missed out — but everyone gets a second chance to behold Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones (and Chris Hemsworth) as another round of spirits, spooks and slime engulf Manhattan.
