Restoration Roundup

Restoration Roundup

When it comes to honoring the ongoing effort of film restoration for cinema’s digital feature, the projects are unending — and the Belcourt keeps a running list for a periodic series highlighting the year’s work. As it happens, this past year since our last roundup, the cup runneth way, way over. We’d need a few months and a fully dedicated screen to highlight everything. And honestly, we’re barely scratching the surface here. Archives and entities the world over work at an alarming rate — and early festivals such as Bologna’s Il Cinema Ritrovato can mine the deeper depths. Here, we offer a cross-section of mainstream and lesser-known domestic and international films, now gleaming anew for posterity.
