Fresh from the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, David Cronenberg’s latest film marks a triumphant return to the well. As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. With his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux), Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen), a celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde productions. Timlin (Kristen Stewart), an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements — which is when a mysterious group is revealed, whose mission is to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.

“...Very tough and creepy, yet improbably relaxed; it’s a low-key dispatch from the end of the world…. [Viggo] Mortensen and [Léa] Seydoux are the conjoined heart and soul of CRIMES OF THE FUTURE, and they imbue the movie with waves of feeling, appreciably warming the overall chill.” —Manohla Dargis, NYT Critic’s Pick, New York Times “Whatever else it may be — a blood-spattered neo-noir, a parable of environmental decay, an uncommonly bizarre and tender love story — CRIMES OF THE FUTURE also operates as a deadpan satire of the modern art world. Seldom has the natural tendency of artists to mine themselves for creative material been pushed to such exquisitely yucky extremes.” —Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times “Buying a ticket to CRIMES OF THE FUTURE is like buying a ticket to the best freak show in town, with Cronenberg as the carnival barker luring us in. That may scare some off, but for me, it was a little like coming home. I've missed this David Cronenberg, and I'm thrilled to have him back.” —Chris Evangelists, Slash Film
