Part of Midnight Movies
Basketball superstar Michael Jordan and cartoon favorite Bugs Bunny team up with other basketball greats and Looney Tunes characters in this combination animated and live-action feature. Jordan must help the Looney Tunes gang with a basketball game against a group of outer space creatures whose plan, if they win, is to kidnap the Looney Tunes and take them to a failing intergalactic amusement park as the latest attraction. Also starring Bill Murray and Wayne Knight. Although we featured the film in one of our virtual midnight events, we’ve not hosted this nostalgic classic on the big screen since 2013.
“SPACE JAM is a happy marriage of good ideas — three films for the price of one, giving us a comic treatment of the career adventures of Michael Jordan, crossed with a Looney Tunes cartoon and some showbiz warfare.” —Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times (Nov 15, 1996) “Where this scores the three pointer is in astutely trading on its strengths: anarchic humor from the Tunes; a decent soundtrack; Murray in a superb supporting role as himself; and, most importantly, the Chicago Bulls superstar's legendary status, his unrivalled style on the court and ability to look so damn cool the whole time.” —William Thomas, Empire
