Part of Weekend Classics: Animal Kingdom
In the spirit of Mary Wollstonecraft and Joseph Conrad comes this sensitive look at the age-old battle between scientific progress and commerce. A group of scientists are dispatched to Isla Nublar, near Costa Rica, to investigate the world’s first theme park with actual live dinosaurs. Genetic manipulation, chaos theory, and family tensions are explored, and the state of visual effects in the movies was changed forever. With Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, Samuel L. Jackson, and a lot of dinosaurs with a taste for routing previously thought-out plans (as well as delicious human flesh). Winner of three Academy Awards for its technical achievements in visual effects and sound design.
Programmer’s Note: Labor Day is stacked. Don’t miss the Animal Kingdom 3x back-to-back Labor Day finale of KING KONG (1:00pm), GODZILLA (3:10pm) and JURASSIC PARK (5:20pm) followed by BOOGIE NIGHTS in 35mm (8:00pm).

And Spielberg got it all right.” —Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine (Jun 14, 1993)
